October 20th School Board Meeting Recap

Agenda item 8.04 to approve the contract for $2,500 of Joan and Loki Mulholland to speak at Susquehannock High School during an assembly was revoked Monday evening due to Coalition feedback noting the Mulholland’s racially-inflammatory language and defense of riots. Coalition members lobbied for Genuine Education, not activist indoctrinating rhetoric.  To watch the Board meeting click here: https://youtu.be/rRrJuVrJ5EU

It was a packed house full of passionate students and parents. In addition to the Administration siding with Coalition concerns, The School Board also honored our request to add an agenda item to the November 17, 2022 Board meeting for the purposes of approving a vetting process and procedure concerning Guest Speaker contracts.

This was the exact Transparency we asked for in previous meetings and a major win for the Coalition. Additionally, it is of note that this was the SECOND time during a Board meeting our Coalition has become de facto Board members influencing policy and facilitating change in our direction.

Committee Meetings

Many of our members are current sitting committee representatives on The Superintendent Advisory Committee, The Diversity Committee, and The Safety Committee. Besides having proper Coalition representation on these committees this is our way of keeping our promise about Transparency and Accountability. In the past, these committees have been responsible for the direction our district follows, the guest speakersinvited for assemblies and supplemental community resources, as well as brainstorming and feedback that in the past did not align with our coalition’s values.

Committees meet once a month, (The Diversity Committee meets virtually), and we will continue to keep you informed of any new or interesting updates in those meetings.

Upcoming Elections

Many of you are aware the CDCpanel unanimously voted to add the Covid vaccinations to children’s immunization schedules. While the CDC is not mandating vaccinations for our children, State Governors use their recommendations as State Law.

Parental Rights…

is a huge focus of the SYCSD Coalition. We stand firmly against unnecessary and capricious medical mandates for our children. The upcoming Governor’s race could decide this future in Pennsylvania for our children. Republican candidate for Governor Doug Mastriano has vehemently stated he will not support this if elected Governor.

Please take this issue into consideration when you vote on November 8th.
